Alarm Use & Emergency Notification

Alarms may sound for various types of emergencies in the building.

If you witness a life-threatening situation (e.g., fire, active threat, gas leak, structural damage):

🔘 Activate the nearest alarm using the Call button by the elevator, above the evacuation maps or the fire pull station by the front door. This triggers a loud building-wide siren.

📣 Immediately notify a Safety Captain or Facility Lead.

📢 A bullhorn announcement will be made by the Facility Lead to direct staff (evacuate, lockdown, shelter-in-place, etc.).

🔥 Fire Evacuation – ALERT, EVACUATE, REPORT

1️⃣ ALERT 🚨

• If you see fire or smoke, pull the nearest fire alarm.
• Call 911 immediately once you are safe.
• Notify your Safety Captain or nearest staff member.

2️⃣ EVACUATE 🚪

• Leave immediately via the nearest safe exit.
• Do not use elevators.
• Take only essentials (e.g., phone, keys) if within reach — do not return for belongings.
• Close doors behind you to contain fire if possible.
• Follow your designated Exit Route to the rally point.

3️⃣ REPORT ✅

• Do not re-enter the building until cleared by emergency personnel.
• Report to your rally spot and check in with your Safety Captain.

🔶 Earthquake – DROP, COVER, HOLD

During shaking:

• 🧎‍♂️ DROP to the ground
• 🛋️ COVER under a sturdy desk or table
• ✋ HOLD ON until shaking stops
• 🪟 FACE AWAY from glass

After shaking:

• 🚶 Evacuate only if needed (fire, damage, gas leak)
• 🧯 Use stairs only, not elevators
• 📍 Go to your assigned Exit Route & Rally Spot
• 🧑‍🚒 Follow Safety Captain Instructions

🔴 Active Shooter – RUN, HIDE

RUN 🏃‍♀️

• Escape if safe. Know your Evacuation Route
• Leave belongings. Keep hands visible. Call 911 when safe.

HIDE 🫥

• Lock yourself in a safe room:
  • Basement: Josefa’s Supply room, Beach and Lighthouse rooms all have locks
  • 1st Floor: Restrooms
  • 2nd Floor: Restrooms, Eskimo
  • 3rd Floor: Restrooms, Flavi’s Office
• Turn off lights, silence devices
• Stay out of sight and quiet

When police arrive:

• 🙌 Keep hands visible
• ❌ Don’t run toward officers
• ✅ Follow commands
